The SDG’s provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. Below are the goals that Ziada Solutions strives to achieve.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 5 (Gender Inequalities) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)
Our project empowers marginalised communities by providing employment and income opportunities, thereby reducing poverty, income and gender inequality. Women living in rural areas are hugely affected by climate change because they source their livelihood from nature.
Through our workshops:
We provide alternative livelihoods and diversified income sources to help communities coping effectively with climate-change induced droughts, and empower women so that they can become their own agents of positive change.

SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)
By expanding employment opportunities for disadvantaged community members and enhancing value addition in the agricultural sector, our project contributes to sustainable economic growth. Developing entrepreneurship is something we strongly encourage amongst our team: the future of our planet is hugely reliant on the young population, and this is why youth is the driving force of our facility. With smallholder farmers accounting for 80%.

SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)
Our commitment to reducing waste through the circular utilisation of banana waste aligns with responsible consumption and production practices.

SDG 13 (Climate Action)
By mitigating air pollution through waste diversion from burning and promoting sustainable agriculture practices, we support climate action and environmental sustainability – also, our facility uses clean renewable technologies. We work directly with the Taita Taveta Banana Cooperative Society, buying banana stems from them (previously without value) providing an additional revenue stream as well as subsided organic fertilisers. We hold quarterly workshops to increase capacity building around climate-smart agricultural techniques.

SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals)
We work with partners both domestically and internationally who are at the forefront of the fight against climate change.
